It Started with the Schools

Sitting in one of my undergraduate classes at a much later stage in life than my fellow students, I was confused when the professor explained the tests we would take during this semester. What was an open book test? A young lady sitting next to me explained "It's a test you can use your text book for…"

I was still confused, "What do you use the text book for?"

"To find the answer" she replied. I was astonished! How does that measure an individual's knowledge and understanding of the material being taught?

In a later class, the professor graded me down because I was a cop and I know this because he told me! Upon graduating high school, a friend's son was flabbergasted to learn a minority classmate had been given a leg up into a prestigious university exclaiming, "He went to the same school as me, had the same teachers and lived in the same neighborhood." "Why does he get all this help?"

Schools in the US have been systematically taken over by the left and generations of Americans have been dumbed down to make them compliant in achieving the lefts agenda. Make no mistake, that is exactly what they are doing, as the hacked Podesta emails explicitly show: "…we must keep the population dumb so they will vote how we want." This we know; what we must concentrate on now is how to take them back. If the nation is to survive, we must start teaching old-fashioned ideas like honor, honesty, integrity and, yes, competition. Standards based on the needs of society, not the unattainable desires of liberal progressives must be established and worked towards. Reading, writing and 'rithmetic! Young people must learn how to deal with failure, most today have no idea what they are capable of because they have never been forced to push themselves to the limit, physically and mentally.

I have often told friends that most of your life is spent at work and so you should be happy there or on your death bed you will look back and realize you were miserable for most of your life! In a similar vein, children spend approximately eight hours of each day at school, at least in high school. Let's say they sleep eight hours, that leaves eight hours for everything else including time with parents. Can you compete with your children being 'taught' eight hours a day by other adults who may have a sinister agenda? You shouldn't have to!

Do you know what is being taught? Do you agree with what is being taught? Parents across the nation are waking up to the insidious threat of Critical Race Theory and many are wondering how it could be so. It started well before Critical Race Theory, remember new math, participation trophies and the movement against the flag and pledge of allegiance with teachers replacing the Star-Spangled Banner with a Cuban flag and picture of Che? Well, we gave up the schools, trusting the teachers were the same as us; but they weren't. Trusting the education authorities would ensure all was proper; but they wouldn't. Trusting other parents would do something; but they didn't. If you want something done, begin it – and lead it – yourself.

Parents across the nation, even in extremely liberal school districts, are beginning to fight back, primarily against Critical Race Theory being proposed in their public-school systems. They shouldn't, of course, have elected those liberal politicians in the first place but, at least it's a beginning. So, let's make sure we in Wyoming don't have to even have that fight. Know who is on (and just as importantly, who wants to be on) your local school board. Look at their previous (usually candid and unguarded) record on social media and in any previous public position. Call and email them, ask them questions about their views and their intentions, and note their answers; you may need those notes later! What questions should you ask? How about something like, "What do think is more important, equipping children with the basic tools for adulthood or preparing them to become model citizens?" I don't think it's up to teachers to decide what a model citizen is because that's our (the people's) job! Take a look at your child's textbooks. Ensure you know what is filling your child's mind. While watching the local high school football game, take the opportunity to talk with other parents and teachers, find out how they feel. I'd be willing to bet most parents are thinking the same and this can be the first step in organizing to counter and preventing the left's indoctrination of our children.

We are lucky in Wyoming as we have many excellent teachers but many struggle daily against the unions, a biased curriculum and peer pressure brought by left wing colleagues. If you're a teacher in Wyoming who agrees with most of what is written here, start by instituting standards in your classroom. Push your students to achieve and show them it is not the end of the world when they fail, as they will! Parents, find out who those teachers are and support them. Teach your children the state code (derived from the Cowboy Ethics and officially adopted by Wyoming in 2010) not just as some abstract theory but, a blueprint to live by and promote:

Live each day with courage (the courage to do the right thing especially when no one is looking);

Take pride in your work (this will encourage you to get better);

Always finish what you start (things left undone have a tendency to break or become useless);

Do what has to be done (don't wait to be told, if you see something that needs doing, do it);

Be tough, but fair (you will earn their respect and they will listen to you);

When you make a promise, keep it (you will be trusted);

Ride for the brand (be loyal to those who have earned your loyalty);

Talk less, say more (be careful what you say and how you say it, be truthful);

Remember that some things are not for sale (no matter how tempting, if it's wrong, it's wrong);

Know where to draw the line (stand for what you believe in and don't change because it's unpopular).

Start with this, explain what each means and why it is important to being a good citizen of our country. In essence, stand tall.
